Marilyn Cahoon, Collaborative Law Specialist

Marilyn Cahoon has been practicing family law in Greensboro since 1983. She was raised in Greensboro and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (BA – Sociology 1969) and Wake Forest University Law School (JD 1983). Prior to attending law school she worked for a number of years as a social worker serving foster children in situations related to child custody.

Her practice has included all areas of family law, including, juvenile court, family law litigation, custody, child support, equitable distribution, alimony, adoptions and name changes. At this time she is concentrating her efforts in the areas of Collaborative Family Law and Mediation, devoting her attention and efforts to achieving satisfactory results for each client more efficiently and with less expense, emotional stress and turmoil. Her goal is to assist clients to achieve satisfactory results that they control, that protect the interests of the children and preserve family assets and relationships.

She enjoys serving as a program presenter and member of the manual revision committee for the Parenting Children of Divorce Program sponsored by the Family Life Counsel of Greensboro. Participation in this program is mandatory for parents participating in custody actions which have been filed in court in Guilford County. She serves on the Board of Directors for Youth Focus, Inc, where she is Vice Chair for 2009, and as a member of the North Carolina Association of Family Mediators where she is president elect for 2009.
